100% of proceeds from this release will go to BEAM (Black Emotional And Mental Health Collective). They’re an organization comprised of artists, yoga teachers, therapists, lawyers, religious leaders and others dedicated to the emotional and mental health of black communities.
“BEAM’s mission is to remove the barriers that Black people experience getting access to or staying connected with emotional health care and healing. We do this through healing justice based organizing, education, training, grantmaking and advocacy.”
This is a very forward thinking organization that’s setting the ground work for a holistic approach to addressing the inequities faced by black communities. We believe it is absolutely essential to defund police forces across the US and allocate funds toward social services for those that have been so disproportionately affected by unjust public safety structures. We need less officers and more social workers. We need to reevaluate the involvement of police in prosecuting smaller offenses. We need more understanding and less blind hate.
Regardless of how many people this may or may not reach, our goal is always to bring positivity to those that listen to our music. What’s happening right now is unfathomably larger than us; but collective change can only happen through individual decisions and actions. We’ve been out marching, attending protests and having challenging conversations with those close to us, as well as people outside of our immediate circles. Systemic racism in the US is undeniable. As white folks, there’s a lot of work for each of us to do in our communities and within ourselves. This includes addressing unconscious biases and assimilating them into our conscious streams of thought. Fragmented as it may be, the human race is one family and the only way forward is together.
Thanks for supporting our music, BEAM and the BLM movement as a whole. More info and thoughts to come from us in the near future.
